Wushipu oil painting village locates in Jiangtou street, Huli district, Xiamen, China. There are nearly 5,000 artists and art workers, and more than 12,000 people engage in oil painting related industry. The products sell well all over the world, The production value reaches to more than two hundred million USD in 2004. By means of searching for potential resources, conforming market and extending the industry train, The production vale for oil paintings and frames is going to reach 3.5 hundred million USD this year.
The first commercial oil painting corporation was born in 1982. As economy and society developed, the scope of Xiamen oil painting industry was also growing. In 1992, the prelude of Wushipu oil painting village was kicked off as the first batch of more than 300 artists and art workers came here. After that, manufacture and distribution of oil painting in Xiamen rapidly centralized in Wushipu village, oil painting industry was effectively promoted as a mass of oil painting companies stationed there especially since 1996. Annual export value of Xiamen oil paintings reaches to more than two hundred million USD (most of the value was made by Wushipu oil painting village), and thus it became one of the world’s three largest oil painting production bases. In order to strengthen Wushipu oil painting industry, under the support of city and borough leaders, the building with 14,000 square meters for oil painting art center is to be built on the east of shopping market (SM),and the center covers an area of 82,000 square meteres. The center laid a foundation on 8th Sep this year. Meanwhile, subsidy, tax deduction and tax return are adopted to support Wushipu oil painting industry. The Wushipu fine art association was established to control and harmonize the oil painting industry. The fist phase of exhibition street was formally set up on 9th Oct in order to push travel industry with Chinese characteristics. The city and borough leaders pay enough attention to the development of Wushipu culture industry. The leading group of Wushipu oil painting industy was established in Huli district and formulated "six ones" ideas for development. (That is: an oil painting base, a culture and art corridor, a culture traveling hotspot, a training base, a trade exhibition platform, and a fine art activity center for youngsters.) Also it was mentioned that Wushipu and its hinterland would be built as a famous scenic spot.
